Lawrence Technological University will host the LTU Expo, a free, one-day celebration of gaming, anime and e-sports, on Saturday, April 4, from noon until 8 p.m.
“It’s a free event open to everyone,” said Jose Gonzalez, a professor in LTU’s computer science department and lead of the game software development concentration. “We have an artist alley, an arcade, some food trucks, and most importantly, we have our game showcase for our students.”
Organizers expect about 100 artists to sell original work and merchandise, alongside a cosplay contest featuring professional cosplayers and influencers as organizers and judges. “We have artists, 100 artists this year,” Gonzalez said, adding that the single-day format draws creators who can make the trip without an overnight stay.
The expo doubles as a window into LTU’s academic offerings in games. “We’re very proud of our programs,” said Ahu Yolaç, director of the university’s game design program. “We are very multidisciplinary. So, we collaborate a lot between the game software development and game design programs.” She added, “Our motto is theory and practice, so we’re practice-focused professional programs,” noting the close-knit community and emphasis on level and systems design.
Gonzalez said the event is also a way for prospective students and families to experience the campus culture. “If you’re interested in the school and you want to see what the community and what the vibe is… I think this is also a good opportunity.”
