Detroit’s newest fitness club is bringing jump rope back - and building community one skip at a time
Turning a childhood pastime into a cardio movement for Detroiters of all fitness levels
JumpStart Detroit Club is putting a fresh spin on an old-school workout. Founded by Kennedy Wood and Cassidy Shackleford, the club offers weekly jump rope interval training sessions every Saturday - with a 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM slot - focused on making fitness fun, accessible, and social. Each 30-minute workout is followed by stretching and a cool-down, totaling about an hour. Participants are welcomed at their own pace, whether they’re seasoned athletes or just rediscovering the rope for the first time since childhood.
Beyond the workout, the club is rooted in community. JumpStart Detroit has partnered with Detroit PAL to extend its mission to local youth, and classes are open to adults 18 and up of all skill levels. A single class runs $15, with monthly memberships also available.
