2-Year-Old Recovering After Drive-By Shooting

Shooting Happens Tuesday Night On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT – Detroit police say the search continues for the person who opened fire on a house Tuesday night, striking a 2-year-old and his 25-year-old father.

Fred Spears said his nephew, Antonio Wright, was outside his grandfather's house on Colfax Street when they came under attack by two men who jumped out of a car.

"We just heard a bunch of shots, like automatics. Just firing," Spears said.

Spears said Wright, who turns three next month, was hit in the head and is recovering in Children's Hospital. He said the toddler's father, Anthony Wright, was hit in the leg, but is expected to be OK.

"That don't make any sense at all. He ain't done nothing to nobody," said neighbor Alexa Trice.

Bullet holes litter several cars that were parked near the house.

Another neighbor, Lorenzo Pious, said his two sons were playmates to the 2-year-old. He has tied balloons to his porch in an attempt to honor the shooting victims.

"It's a shame. I can't speak, really. I'll start crying," Pious said.

Churchgoers at nearby Ark of Deliverance Church said they heard the gunshots.

"We heard something that sounded like gunshots when we were bringing down the tent," said Carl Harrell.

Antonio Wright was at the hospital Wednesday night.

"I'm calling out to those in the neighborhood," said Stephanie Jones, of Ark of Deliverance. "It you have heard anything, know anything, contact the police and let them know what's going on. We're keeping that family in prayer for sure."
