DETROIT – The Detroit Lions will attempt to go undefeated in 2011 preseason play Thursday night at Buffalo.
The team is exciting the fan-base by posting three wins so far in exhibition play. While it is just the preseason, Detroit's attitude has the city abuzz with NFL fever.

Still, going undefeated in the preseason would be nothing new for the Lions. The team posted a 4-0 preseason record in 2008, only to finish the regular season with the historically abhorrent 0-16 record.
In fact, Detroit has been rather successful in preseasons as of late. In both 2009 and 2010 the Lions went 3-1 in the "practice" games, but finished the regular seasons with losing records -- 2-14 in 2009, and 6-10 in 2010.
Obviously, the preseason doesn't mean too much for the rest of the Lions season.
However, it can't hurt, can it? If Detroit can finish the preseason off with a win on the road against the Buffalo Bills, a 4-0 record can only instill confidence. Unfortunately, the 2008 season doesn't do much to support this theory. Neither do the 2009 or 2010 records.
Regardless of the outcome of the games, for the players, small victories on each play are much more important. The Lions still have guys vying for positions on the 53-man roster, and this is the team's last preseason chance to figure out who will be running the ball.
Many believe that if the Lions can't figure out the latter, then they will be choking on another losing season.
The game is 6:30 p.m. in Orchard Park, N.Y.
For what it's worth, the Bills are 1-2 in the preseason.
