"He went to the classroom, he investigated and determined that actually two students were involved, and that there actually was a loaded handgun in the school," Turner said.
Turner said 17-year-old Tyanna Alexander and another student, a 15-year-old boy, were taken into custody.
Alexander is charged with carrying a gun in a school, a five-year felony. The 15-year-old is also charged with the same offense in juvenile court.
"I'm surprised and shocked. Why would somebody come to school with a loaded gun?" said student Dalincia Thomas.
Redford Schools Superintendent Ron Stoneman declined to be interviewed on camera, but said the incident was unusual.
As a precaution, extra police and administrators were in the high school on Thursday.
