ST CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – The men and women who use the St. Clair Shores Senior Center said it is not just a fun place to spend time with others, it helps them save money.
They can work out several times a week, and pay just $15 a year for a membership.

"The reason I decided to join is because a regular gym was going to run me $150 a year," said Mary Moir, who's from Grosse Pointe Farms.
The center charges St. Clair Shores residents $15 a year. Non-residents pay $25 a year for the membership.
"It's so affordable, it's a shame not to take advantage of it," said Fran Ward, a St. Clair Shores resident.
The center also prepares meals for seniors at a discounted rate. They can get a hot lunch for just $3 if they are over 60-years-old or for $3.50 if they are under 60.
When the seniors are not at the center they are shopping for deals on how to spend their money.
All of them had the same piece of advice for getting the senior discount.
"You have to ask," said Ward.
"Speak up, that's all," said Kelly.
"Any place I think might have a discount, I'm not afraid to ask 'Do you have a senior discount?' All they can say is no," said Moir.
Many senior discounts for restaurants, shopping and travel can be found online.
Every Wednesday, Kohls offers 15 percent off for senior citizens.
Many places offer a 10 percent discount including restaurants like the Ram's Horn, Tim Hortons, accommodations including Choice hotels and Best Western hotels. AMC Theatres said on its website that it offered senior ticket prices. Both AT&T and Verizon Wireless provide senior calling plans for about $30 a month.
An AARP membership provides many discounts for shopping, food, travel and more. Anyone 50 or older can join for just $16.95 a year.
