GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – A veteran of the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department is the focus of an investigation Thursday after he was caught drinking and driving and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.
On Nov. 16, Grosse Pointe Park Police Lt. John Kretzschmar was off duty, driving his own car when he struck another vehicle near 14 Mile and I-75 in Madison Heights, according to officers there.
Kretzschmar then left the scene of the accident. He was tracked down by police who said his blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit, according to a breathalyzer test.
"I can confirm this incident took place," the Grosse Pointe Park police chief said. "The Madison Heights Police Department is handling the criminal investigation. I will be conducting the internal investigation. I assure you disciplinary action will be taken if it is warranted in this case."
Kretzschmar has not been sentenced.
