DETROIT – Can you say destiny?
The Wayne State University Warriors Football team is now one win away from being crowned the NCAA Division II National Champions.
The same football program that has never even advanced to the post season in it's 94-year history.
The team many thought with a three game losing streak early in the regular season would likely sit the post season out again.
Instead, the team finished strong with a 8-3 record against a tough schedule, just enough to sneak into the playoffs with a six seed.
The Warriors knocked off four great teams on the road including the defending champion, the No. 1 seeded team and the only undefeated team last weekend in the semi finals, Winston Salem State.
Now the Warriors will play the Pittsburg State Gorillas out of Pittsburg Kansas in the national championship on Saturday in Alabama. And even though Pittsburgh State has played in the title game five times and won it in 1991, ask any player, coach, parent or fan and they all say the Warriors and their 20 seniors on the team are destined for one more win.
If you want to be apart of the excitement, the Wayne State University Alumni are hosting a live viewing party at Emagine Theatre in Royal Oak.
Game time is 11 a.m. Saturday.
The party and pre-game refreshments are free and open to the public but you must pre-register and bring a copy of your email confirmation for entry.
