Unemployment claims will be accepted during Christmas and New Year's holiday weeks

Benefits may be slightly delayed because of the holidays

Detroit –  Unemployed workers can still file claims for unemployment, even though Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency will be closed for several days over the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

People can use the agency's automated Michigan Automated Response Voice Interactive Network, known as "MARVIN", over the next to weeks to file claims.

MARVIN is also available online to those with free online web accounts with the state of michigan.  Those can be setup at www.michigan.gov/uia .

Michigan's unemployment offices will be closed December 23rd, 26th, 30th, as well as January 2nd.

Because of the holidays, the unemployment agency says that there may be a one or two day delay in the payment of some unemployment benefits.  The delays could involve both direct deposit and debit card payments.
