Turns, twists in murder case of Grosse Pointe Park mom

Husband remains 'person of interest' in death of Jane Bashara

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – All was quiet outside the Bashara home Wednesday morning after a wild day of sadness, twists & turns in the murder mystery of Jane Bashara.

The Grosse Pointe Park mother, wife and marketing professional were found choked to death last week. Her body was placed in the back of her luxury Mercedes SUV and abandoned in an alley on Detroit's east side.

Bashara's husband, Bob is reported to be the sole "person of interest" in the case.

Special coverage: Grosse Pointe Park murder investigation

I covered the funeral of Jane Bashara yesterday morning, nearby in the ritzy area of Grosse Pointe Farms.

Hundreds of people packed Grosse Pointe Memorial church, and it was a sad and sobering scene as Jane's ashes were carried into the church.  The national media is presenting this case as "murder in one of the wealthiest areas" of the country, but this is about real people and the horrific end of a woman's life.  So many people loved Jane Bashara and respected her.  People leaving church exchanged stories about how fun and smart Jane was.

It was interesting to know that Bob Bashara went to the funeral, but entered the church from the rear and left from the back door as well.  Friends and family members embraced and cried and greeted waves of people leaving the church, but not Bob Bashara.  He drove off to a family lunch in his Lincoln Navigator with that Michigan vanity plate "Big Bobb."

I interviewed a man from Detroit who saw this case on Local 4 and was inspired to get dressed up, drive to the church and pay his respects.

Then, a crew from "Inside Edition" stopped to interview me.  It was unusual to say the least.

As we were getting set to go live on Local 4 news with our report from the funeral, we got word that reporter Marc Santia was breaking a big story over at the police department.

This morning, we're following up on that information; we're asking Bob Bashara for an interview to ask more about his side of the story in all of this.

But a woman in the church yesterday summed up this case, and she wasn't talking about the media attention, she called it a "circus" given all the twists, turns, family issues, developments and news crews that are now all over the Grosse Pointe area.
