Child removed from life support after Chesterfield Township crash

Four other siblings expected to survive

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A family from Casco Township removed their young son from life support on Sunday.

Kyle Halcomb, 11, died within minutes thereafter.

The child was injured Friday morning in an accident involving his brothers and sisters as their mother drove the five children to school after missing the bus.

Kyle was a 6th grader at Anchor Bay North Middle School and was seated behind his mother in the family minivan when police say she ran a red light at 26 Mile Road and County Line road.

The minivan was struck in both directions by two vehicles simultaneously.

Firefighters and rescue personnel from five area communities needed the Jaws of Life to pull the family from that van.

Police said the other car involved struck the door of the minivan on the side Kyle was seated at.

The other Halcomb children are expected to survive their injuries.

The announcement of Kyle's death was made this morning at Anchor Bay Middle School North and a crisis team is in place to counsel any of the schools students.

Police continue investigating the crash.
