DETROIT – It appears a Chinese automaker is trying to sell a pickup truck that looks suspiciously similar to the Ford F-150.
It's call the 4R3 and it's from the Jianghuai Auto Corportation.
It borrows much from the F-150: tail lights, the grill and the iconic blue oval name plate.
Auto analyst Jim Hall said it's really worse than a fake, it's a double fake.
"This is a fake Silverardo turned into a fake F-150," he said.
Should Ford be worried?
"To think that this is going to hurt the F-150's sales in any way, shape or form, or affect the image, is like thinking that Rolex loses a lot of its image because you can go to Time's Square and buy one for $25," Hall said.
He adds the 4R3 exterior design is an F-150, but it's nothing like it on the inside. The 4R3 has a 4-cylinder engine with little hauling power.
So what is Ford doing about it?
"We are aware of press reports about the truck and out legal team is investigating," the automaker said in a statement to Local 4.
