Female burglars robbing upscale Northville Township homes

Police believe robbers case neighborhoods

NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A band of female robbers is hitting homes in Northville Township.

Homes in upscale neighborhoods have been targeted. In one neighborhood, the robbers got away with more than $100,000 in jewelry.

Northville Township Public Safety Director John Werth said the women check out homes in advance.

"They are knocking on doors and seeing if anybody's home. A lot of times if somebody is home they will tell them they are looking for dogs or looking for cleaning work and that type of that they are doing," Werth said.

Werth added that homeowners should keep an eye open for what is going on in their neighborhood.

"You should be aware of your surroundings and if you know a neighbor's gone, and you see somebody on the doorstep and you don't see them there, report it to the police," Werth said.

Police are also urging Northville Township residents to lock their cars if the vehicles are left out at night and not leave laptops and other valuables inside cars in plain view.
