CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Vehicles have been getting swiped from a family-owned dealership in Chesterfield Township.
So far this year, six trucks have been stolen from the Car Country dealership.
"These guys know how to drive a truck. A diesel truck," said Shannon Pipiazza, dealership owner.
Owners Shannon and Steve Pipiazza have surveillance video showing a man trying to steal a truck off the lot. The Pipiazzas believe the thief, or thieves, has a key.
Video from the dealership lot shows a man run to the back of a truck. He talks on his cellphone and with a key he makes his move. He starts the truck and takes off.
Seems simple enough.
However, the dealership owners placed 2,000-pound barriers around the lot perimeter to dissuade thieves.
Yet, the heavy barrier didn't stop the thief on video from trying.
Five hours later, he went back to the lot to attempt to steal a diesel pickup truck. He floored it but couldn't quite get over the concrete block. He left the truck and fled on foot.
The Pipiazzas hope he's caught soon.
"I personally believe they are getting the keys made somewhere," said Shannon.
Steve said they should get a job.
The Pipiazzas said the truck that struck the concrete barrier will need $5,000 worth of repairs to its front end.
