SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The broken water main in Shelby Township is not expected to be back in service until Tuesday, June 5, a spokesman for the Detroit Water and Sewage Department said on Thursday.

The main broke this past Tuesday at 24 Mile and Schoenherr roads, shooting water into the air and flooding the area. Boil water advisories have been in effect for residents in Shelby Township, Lenox Township and the city of Rochester.

The DWSD said it is up to those communities to decide when a boil water advisory will be lifted.

Crews continued working Thursday to clear water from the road and to repair the busted main. A new pipe is likely needed, DWSD said.
