SOUTHGATE, Mich. – The seagulls are everywhere.

The birds have invaded a vacant Saturn dealership on Fort Street in Southgate. Anyone getting too close to the lot is advised to wear a hat.

"I've never seen so many seagulls in one spot," said Vic Beregszaszy, of Southgate.

The birds are swarming the skies, perching on roof tops and they are leaving their mark all over the vacant building.

Southgate residents say the birds aren't afraid to get up close and personal.

Local 4 went to Southgate's municipal offices to ask what they are doing about the invading birds.

Tom Coombs, director of public safety with the Southgate police, said they hope it's just a short term problem.

Police say the building has been purchased and when a new business moves in the seagulls should move out.

Meanwhile, the road construction along Fort Street is not helping. All of the digging has created a seagull feeding frenzy.

Until anything happens to make the birds leave, Southgate residents can feel as if they are trapped in a Hitchcock movie.
