SHELBYVILLE, Mich. – A West Michigan bride, groom and their entire wedding party found themselves standing in a lake during a photo shoot.
It happened Saturday at Bay Pointe Inn in Shelbyville, MI at the wedding reception of Eric Walber and Maegan McKee (now Walber) of Bryon Center.
The entire wedding party was posing for pictures on a dock on Gun Lake. After just 30 seconds, the dock gave way, dumping the entire wedding party into the lake.
WOOD-TV, a western Michigan NBC affiliate of Local 4 News, spoke with the couple Saturday as they headed to their honeymoon on Mackinac Island.
"I saw the thing starting to tilt, and I'm like, 'Oh, yup, this is going to happen,'" Eric said.
Although wet and shocked, the bride and groom took the whole event in stride.
"Everyone was laughing. It was one of those things that it just happens and you roll with it," Eric said.
Several members of the wedding party had cell phones in their purses and suits that were damaged from being in the lake, but no one was injured.
Luckily, the bride had a spare dress on hand. Maegan traded her soaked wedding dress for the one she'd worn during the rehearsal dinner the night before.
"It makes for a good story," Maegan said. "We'll be telling our grandkids."
