DETROIT – Perched high atop a 45-foot utility pole at Brush and King streets in Detroit, a black and white kitten was stuck with no way down.

Those who live nearby said the small cat has been up on the pole for almost a week. The kitten's cries for help appeared to be getting louder with each passing day.

"There have been several people trying to coach the kitten down," said Velma Cornelius, who lives nearby. "You see, the kitten is still up there."

Periodically, the cat would carefully walk the top of the pole. Having gone days without food and water, some fear the feline's days are numbered.

"I don't know if he's scared to come down or what," said Shana Rodriguez, who contacted Local 4 for help.

Rodriguez said she has tried to get help rescuing the kitten. She contacted Local 4 who reached out to DTE Energy. A crew arrived soon after.

In less than 5 minutes, the kitten was safe. No one knows who he belongs to. However, those concerned for the cat's safety call him Lucky.

"I really appreciate DTE coming out," said Rodriguez.

The cat, in an unexpected way, brought the community together. Neighbors who didn't speak before this do now.

Their hope is to find the kitten a new home so he doesn't end up in a situation such as this again.

The cat, which appeared be in decent health, will be given to the Humane Society on Tuesday.
