FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Metro Family Fitness gym in Farmington Hills suddenly shut its doors Sunday night, leaving members asking questions about the money they paid to the owners.
A sign on the door of the facility on Halsted Road said the gym had to close because of financial difficulties.
Al Harvey was a member who said the gym has other difficulties in the recent past.
"I know they had a lot of maintenance issues, heat and air conditioning in the summer. the heat didn't work last winter. They fixed it this year but they were trying, upgrading, adding some machines," Harvey said.
The building used to be home to a Powerhouse Gym. Member Dave Graham said some members quit because of those past problems.

"You know, the whole heat thing, they lost a log of clients. No heat towards the beginning of winter and they finally got it fixed. I thought maybe it might stay going and see a bunch of new faces. They dropped the prices and here I am today," Graham said.
No one from the gym has been available to discuss the closing.
It is one of about a half dozen gyms to close in the metro Detroit area in recent months.
For members of those gyms that shut down, the Better Business Bureau recommends you hold onto your receipts, contracts and other paperwork, which might help you recover your money.
You are encouraged to contact the owners via certified letter, asking for your money back.
If the company goes bankrupt, you can file a proof of claim form with the court to protect your rights. There is, however, no guarantee you will get your money back.
