State Rep. Fred Durhal Jr. officially throwing hat into Detroit's mayoral ring

DETROIT – Michigan Representative Fred Durhal Jr. will be officially throwing his hat into Detroit's mayoral ring on Thursday.

Durhal is expected to submit 1000 signatures on petitions to the Detroit City Clerk. Durhal said he believes he has the financial and political skills to lead Detroit as the city's next mayor.

The 60-year-old democrat announced his intent to run in November, 2012.

About Durhal:

He is finishing his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives. He has lived in Detroit since he was 6-months-old.

He attended Detroit Public Schools then continued his education at Wayne State University, Wayne County Community College, and the University of Phoenix.

Durhal also serves as the Chair of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus.

• Former Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan
• Former State Representative Lisa Howze
• Former Detroit City attorney Krystal Crittendon
• State Representative Fred Durhal Jr.
• Previous candidate Tom Barrow officially entered the race when he picked up his nominating petitions.

Wild Card:

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing took the first step toward seeking a second term in office but still has not decided whether he'll carry through with it.
