The Walk/run started at 11 a.m. The Pet Fair is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
10-year-old Sutton Rokowski of Troy was invited to cut the ribbon on the event after his selfless request of friends to donate money to an animal charity instead of buying birthday gifts for him.

"Last year the event was a huge success, even with the rain, with more than 300 Walkers from throughout Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint and Port Huron stepped up for the homeless animals. Many more came just for the Pet Fair," said Alexandria Whitney, Founder of Guardians For Animals. "GFA and its affiliates saved over 3,400 'death row' shelter animals last year. With everyone's support 2013 can be even more successful while encouraging healthy living through exercise, creating awareness, and raising funds for homeless animals."
For those who pre-register, which costs $15, organizers said they will receive an event T-shirt, deluxe goodie bag and a chance to win VIP seating for six to the Clawson 4th of July Fireworks event, with snack basket and chairs, a one-hour massage and facial from Massage Envy, custom 8x10 portrait of your pet from artist Suzie Skibicki and a Deluxe Doggie Basket.
All walkers will receive lunch and an event T-shirt, while supplies last.
Registration is $20 the day of the event. For those who don't want to walk, people can attend the free Pet Fair, which includes adoptable animals, $20 Micro chipping and fun activities, such as a pet mummy wrap contest and Children's Art Contest.
In the contest, children draw a picture of their favorite animal, real or imaginary, and bring it the day of the event. The contest will be broken down into four age groups, pre-school to 6 years, 7-11, 12-15, and 16-18 years. Organizers said prizes include McDonald's and Toy-R-Us gift cards.
Finally, there are two raffle opportunities with prizes, including a Motor City Casino Package which includes an over night stay in a Deluxe King Suite with a spa package and $100 Visa Card, four front row third base line tickets to a Detroit Tiger Game (date to be determined) with four official Tiger Hats, and four tickets to the Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle.
Organizers said all walkers and joggers must register for the event, and copies of the registration form are available at Clawson City Hall, online at www.clawsonclawspaws.com, or by calling Mary Sames at 248-435-6500 or Kathy Phillips at 248-217-3397.
