Port Huron, Mich. – Port Huron police say they have a 52-year-old Port Huron resident in custody after a fatal stabbing Friday night on Stanton Street.

Police say the suspect cut the throat of 26-year-old David Wayne Long of Port Huron.

The incident began Friday evening around 11 p.m. where several people were sitting around a bonfire on Stanton Street, including Long and the suspect. Witnesses tell police the two men had been involved in a dispute earlier in the day and the two later engaged in a confrontation while at the bonfire.

The suspect reportedly approached the victim and cut his throat with a knife. The suspect left the scene before police arrived. The victim was rushed to Port Huron Hospital where he passed away from his injuries.

Police later located the suspect at his home in the 1100 block of 10th street. He is currently lodged in the St. Clair County Intervention Center and is expected to be arraigned Sunday, June 9th. The charges are being reviewed by the St. Clair County Prosecutors Office.

The investigation is being handled by Port Huron Police and the St. Clair County Sheriff Major Crimes Unit.
