Small city of Inkster has seen 13 homicides this year

INKSTER, Mich. – The city of Inkster has been hard by violent crime, with the latest incident occurring Monday night.

A 28-year-old man, confined to a wheelchair after a motorcycle accident, was with a group of people outside the Heatherwood Apartments on Michigan Avenue, when someone walked up and shot him nine times.

"Who's arguing with him, is he having problems with somebody. Family members wouldn't even tell us who he was arguing with," Delgreco said.

Detective Delgreco said it was not just the family who do not cooperate with police.

"People were out everywhere when the shooting happened and they didn't see anything," Delgreco said.

One apartment resident who did not want to be identified said she is living in fear.

"He might come back. We don't know if he'll come back. You can't even sit outside your house anymore," the resident said.

Detective Delgreco said cooperation from the public can change the situation of people wanting crimes solved, but not wanting to help.

"I just want to get it out that it does work. If people just come forward and say this is what I saw, this is the person I saw there, it gives us a place to start in an investigation," Delgreco said.

Police remind Inkster residents can can call in anonymous tips without giving their name of phone number. They can also provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
