Livonia pawn shop proposal rejected

Livonia Planning Commission rejects pawn shop proposal while residents express safety concerns

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Livonia Planning Commission decided Tuesday night not to allow a pawn shop to move into a vacant building at Middlebelt and 6 Mile roads.

Concerned residents argued the proposed Motor City Pawn Brokers pawn shop would attract crime and make the area less safe. Residents also argued the pawn shop already has business in the city.

The Planning Commission chose not to allow another Motor City Pawn Brokers location to operate in Livonia.

The owner argued there is a need in the area for his shop's services. A supporter said other Motor City Pawn Brokers locations are clean, friendly, safe and operate professionally.

The site of the now-defunct Core Fitness Center has sat vacant for years.
