Woman: Redford Township police killed my dog while chasing suspect

Woman's boyfriend arrested for confronting police

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A woman says Redford Township police killed her 10-month-old Lab/pit bull mix at around midnight Sunday morning while chasing a suspect through yards in the neighborhood.

According to the woman, her dog was in the backyard of her home in the 19000 block of Norborne Street with a sign on the fence that says "Beware of dog."

She said the police jumped into her yard chasing the suspect and got scared of her dog and shot him.

Police say they saw the suspect they were chasing in the house through a window. Police went through an unsecured gate into the backyard. The officer said he was charged by the dog. He said he was fearing for his safety when he fired a round at the dog. The dog continued advancing so he fired again.

The woman's boyfriend questioned police about the incident and was handcuffed and arrested for interfering with a police investigation. The woman has since bailed him out.
