Repairs underway at Livonia water tank No description found
LIVONIA, Mich. – Repairs are underway at a 10-million-gallon water tank in Livonia which burst and overflowed in March 2013.
The tank on West Chicago Street just east of Middlebelt Road is used as a backup storage tank by the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. An intake valve in the tank became stuck in the open position last year, causing water to overflow and burst at the seams .

Initial repairs to the valve were completed to get the water to stop leaking. However, the tank sustained obvious damage and needs more comprehensive repairs. The estimated repairs cost is $13,865,107, which comes straight from the water department's revenue.
These photos were taken Monday afternoon. Workers have cut the top off the structure. It's not clear when this will be completed.
Meanwhile, water service in the area is not affected.
