DETROIT – Bob Bashara appeared to wipe away tears in court Thursday as his former mistress Rachel Gillett talked about their relationship.
Gillett again had to reveal intimate details about their life together and how it may tie into this case. She said she was in the Bashara family's Grosse Pointe Park home before Jane Bashara's murder. She said she got an excuse from Bob about why it appeared he was still sleeping with Jane.
"He had moved back there because the bed was more comfortable, but they slept in separate covers and he was totally covered and disconnected from her," said Gillett.
The courtroom heard about the day Jane's body was found. Hours after getting the news, Gillett said Bob called her begging her to come over and be with his family. She refused, but that night did attend a vigil for Jane and hugged Bob there.
She also revealed explicit details about a sexual act that took place before the murder in Bob and Jane's bed.
"He then blindfolded us both and put us in his van and said we were going somewhere. I wasn't sure where we were going ... after he led us into the building I realized we were in his home," said Gillett.
She talked about plans for a new life with Bob and another woman.
"We had talked about having another woman either live with us or have a relationship with him," said Gillett.
The defense countered with Gillett's claims that she was afraid of Bob but that she kept going back to him. The defense said if she thought he was violent, she would have left for good.
