Plymouth Twp. residents voice opinion about building of mosque

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. – People packed a commission meeting Wednesday night at St. Johns Episcopal church in Plymouth Township to voice their concerns about plans to build a new mosque.

While the majority of public comments were in support, some said it will cause a traffic nightmare and increase the noise in their neighborhoods.

The plan is for a capacity of 400 members, but some are concerned about how big it could get. And with the size could bring more traffic.

"Traffic on 5 mile, when you try to turn left right now, is horrendous and it's not going to get any better after this," one resident said.

A small number of opponents also raised some cultural concerns.

"People don't get to know each other they're afraid," said one speaker at the meeting. "I would like to invite all of you to come to the services of different congregations."
