Gunman ties up employee during robbery at cash advance store in Waterford

Police say gunman zip-tied employee before stealing money

WATERFORD, Mich. – Waterford police are looking for a gunman who tied up a cash advance store employee during a robbery last week.

Police said the man entered a Advance America Cash Advance store on Highland Road just after noon on Dec. 23 and requested a loan application. He took the application, left, and returned 20 minutes later with the incomplete application.

Police said the man left and returned again, and was told he wouldn't be eligible for a loan. At that point, the man reached over the counter and grabbed the female employee by her hair and pointed a black pistol at her, police said.

The gunman took the employee to a back room and zip-tied her hands and feet.

Police said the gunman then left with an undisclosed amount of money in a burgundy or maroon sedan.

Police have released surveillance pictures of the gunman in the store. He is described as black, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 pounds with very large feet. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, dark colored pants and black shoes/boots.
