PONTIAC, Mich. – A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his 32-year-old girlfriend who was a mother of seven.
Police said Akira McCray shot Kenyetta Barnes multiple times Tuesday night during an argument in a home on Shirley Street.

Barnes' 2-year-old daughter, Ahmiya, was standing next to her mother when the gunfire erupted and was hit in the leg. Ahmiya is in stable condition at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

McCray was taken into custody after the shooting. He will be arraigned Thursday on charges of open murder, assault with intent to murder and two counts of possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Police said McCray is not the father of any of Barnes' children and doesn't have a criminal history.
