North terminal reopens at Detroit Metro Airport
Owner of laptop considered 'suspicious' taken into custody, officials say
DETROIT – The north terminal at Detroit Metro Airport reopened Saturday afternoon after being closed, Metro Airport officials confirmed.
The terminal was evacuated Saturday afternoon to investigate a suspicious situation, according to airport operations official Brian Lassaline.
The suspicious item was a laptop. Airport officials took the man who owned the laptop into custody. He has not been charged, as of Sunday afternoon, but officials say he has not been released.
The closure was prompted by some comments the man allegedly made that caused concern, officials said.
Flights from the north terminal were suspended. The area most affected by the shutdown was the American Airlines ticket counter area.
Passengers were being re-screened at the terminal's two checkpoints.
