Police: Couple went on armed robbery crime spree in Westland, Garden City, Inkster

WESTLAND, Mich. – An Inkster couple is accused of multiple armed robberies and home invasions in Westland, Garden City and in Inkster.

Police say Duan Crawford, 26, and Darlene Binyard, 25, who are romantic partners (boyfriend and girlfriend), conducted a string of crimes across the area.

The couple began the crime spree in Garden City, where police say they forced an elderly man into his home, stole his pistol and drove away with his vehicle. Using the stolen pistol, the couple entered an occupied home in Westland and robbed a family of four at gunpoint.

Then it was on to Inkster, where they kicked in a woman's door and robbed her of money, credit cards and a laptop computer. The two attempted to rob another woman in Inkster, but the woman was able to shut the door on them before they could enter her home, police said.

They continued on their way but eventually ran out of gas in the stolen vehicle, police said. Westland police say they left behind evidence which helped officers identify, find and arrest them.

Moreover, the two are suspected in another Westland break-in, police said.

Crawford and Binyard are being held at the Wayne County Jail. A judge set bond at $750,000 each. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 15. Preliminary exams are scheduled for Oct. 22.
