DETROIT – The man arrested in connection with an attack on two Detroit EMTs was charged for two other violent crimes Wednesday, including the murder of a 16-year-old.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's office said Michael Montgomery, 30, sexual assaulted and fatally stabbed the teen victim while she was going to the store in January 2006. Officials said Wednesday that a DNA test was done after the incident, but there wasn't a suspect to match it to until last week.
Montgomery is charged with first-degree murder, felony murder and criminal sexual assault.
He is also facing charges of criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, torture and a felony firearm violation for an incident involving a 33-year-old Detroit woman on Dec. 23, 2005.
The judge entered a not guilty plea for Montgomery. He will be held in the Wayne County Jail without bond. A probable cause conference is Oct. 28.
"Mr. Montgomery is a bad character," said DPD Chief Steve Dolunt at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
Dolunt asked the public to come forward about any other crimes committed by Montgomery. He believes there are more crimes that haven't been uncovered.
"I've been doing this for a long time, and I think that Mr. Montgomery has other victims," Dolunt said. He thinks other victims may have been too afraid of Montgomery to come out about his crimes, but that they might be more willing to do so now that he's in custody.
Montgomery was arrested Tuesday evening in connection with the attack on EMTs Kelly Adams and Alfredo Rojas that happened earlier in the day. They suffered severe cuts to their faces.
He has not been charged in connection with the assault on the EMTs.
"He's a threat. It appears he's a threat to everyone, public safety, males, females," Dolunt said. "He doesn't, in my mind, have very much of a conscious."
Dolunt said Montgomery was apologetic after being arrested Tuesday night but that it's "too little, too late."
A weapon was confiscated along with clothes during Montgomery's arrest.
