DETROIT – A local family was just trying to buy their uncle a car on Craigslist and is out thousands of dollars.
They found out the SUV they bought was stolen and the seller is still posting ads for other vehicles.
The buyer had bought an SUV from the same man for $4,400 earlier in the week. The title looked good, but at the secretary of state, he was told the SUV was stolen and the vehicle was impounded and the money was gone.
The family set up a meeting to look at another vehicle and Local 4 went along for the ride.
The man was trying to sell a 2001 GMC Yukon on Craigslist with 100,000 miles on it.
He showed up with no plate on the SUV, no vehicle identification number on the door and the VIN that is on the dash came back as not stolen. Only that VIN traces back to a Yukon with more than 200,000 miles on it, from a different car.
The man took off when he noticed Local 4 was there.
