Woman was pushing cart full of groceries when struck

DETROIT – A woman pushing a cart full of groceries was hit by a vehicle and dragged across a parking lot.

The woman was hit just after 6 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot near Gratiot Avenue and Eight Mile Road on Detroit's east side.

As the car kept going, Tanya Lindsey ran to the driver's side and forced her way in.

The victim was injured and at first was unresponsive.

Lindsey was unloading groceries when she saw the victim walking to her car. Next thing she knew, the woman was pinned under an SUV.

While everyone waited for an ambulance, Lindsey acted on instinct and laid down next to the injured woman.

Lindsey said the victim was able to answer her questions and knew what had happened.

The victim was listed in temporary serious condition. Authorities said the driver was issued a citation and was released.
