Drunk driver to victim's family: 'I'm so sorry'

Through tears on Tuesday, a 21-year-old man apologized to the family of a man he killed while driving drunk earlier this summer in Sterling Heights.

Police said Nathan Heinz's blood alcohol was 0.14 on July 26 when the SUV he was driving ran over 44-year-old Charles Weber, who was riding his motorcycle on Mound Road. Weber was dragged for several feet. He died at the scene.

“I know I can’t say it enough. I’m sorry to the Webers. I’m so sorry," Heinz said. “You can’t call it a mistake. It was a terrible decision.”

Heinz. of Richmond, pled guilty to one count of operating under the influence causing death.

Judge Mary Chrzanowski sentenced Heinz to 2-15 years in prison and $10,900 in restitution.
