NEW YORK – Lumosity, makers of the "brain training" program has agreed to settle with the Federal Trade Commission for $2 million.

This is all after charges alleging that they tricked customers with unconfirmed claims that their games could help users perform better in school and at work. Lumosity also claimed to help reduce cognitive impairment that's associated with aging.

In the settlement, Lumos Labs, the company behind Lumosity, will notify all of its customers and issue an easy way to cancel their auto-renewal.

Director of the Trade Commission says the company preyed on the fears of consumers, suggesting their game saves on memory loss, but simply didn't have the science to back it up.

According to the complaint filed by the FTC, the "brain training" program has 40 games that are designed to train certain areas of the brain that can be at a risk of disease. Lumoisty suggest that using the program for 15 minutes, four times a week, and customers could achieve "their full potential."

Both online and mobile app memberships were sold, ranging from $14.95 for a monthly subscription, to $299.95 for a lifetime.

The games have also been feature on several major TV networks like CNN, Fox News, National Public Radio, and the History Channel.

Lumosity now has to issue refunds to those who purchased the training plans between Jan. 1, 2009 and Dec. 31, 2014.
