DETROIT – Two more Detroit Public Schools are closed Friday as teacher sick-outs continue to plague the district.
"Detroit Public Schools has no other choice but to close two schools this morning, East English Village Preparatory Academy and Mann Learning Community, because teachers from those schools have chosen not to come to work," said district spokeswoman Michelle Zdrodowski.

The emergency manager running Detroit's troubled public schools said it's "unacceptable" and "unethical" for teachers to call in sick and force the cancelation of classes.
“Using students as pawns to advance a political position, in my opinion, is not only unacceptable, it is also unethical,” Darnell Earley said.

Former Detroit Federation of Teachers president Steve Conn, who has been a force behind the strikes, said to prepare for more sick-outs.
"It's going to be bigger. We are planning, as a I said, it's got to build to a city-wide strike. We're going to plan action next week that Michigan will know for years to come," said Conn.
Conn said teachers are upset about compensation, growing classroom sizes and a lack of the ability to retain quality teachers in the district.
