ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Employees of Michigan’s Max and Erma’s restaurants were shocked Monday morning to learn some of the chain’s locations had unexpectedly closed.
The company announced that it closed 13 of its 50 restaurants. Eight of those locations are in Michigan.
“Definitely very shocking,” said longtime server and bartender Dana Consolo. “We all pay bills and my parents live out of state and so it’s kind of an issue.
The Michigan locations closing are in Ann Arbor, Novi, Livonia, Rochester Hills, Plymouth, Canton, Auburn Hills and Westland.
Severance packages were offered to all employees including managers who didn’t know the bad news was coming either.
“It was a great run and I work with bunch of great people,” said Matt Martin, a manager.
Max and Erma’s said it has an encouraging announcement coming Jan. 25.
The remaining Max and Erma’s locations in Michigan are in Partridge Creek, Lansing and Detroit metro airport.
