It's time to grab your favorite bag of chips and settle in, as Monday March 14th is National Potato Chip Day!

Potato chips were developed in the mid-1850's at restaurant in Saratoga Springs, New York by a chef named George Crum. An angry customer of Crum's restaurant sent an order of fried potatoes back to the kitchen saying they were too soggy and thick. So Crum then sliced the potatoes very thin and thus the potato chip was developed.

A recent study shows the nation consumes an average of 1.2-billion pounds of potato chips each year. The study goes on to say potato chips continue to be the best selling snack food in the world, followed by tortilla chips and crackers.
