ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Royal Oak City Clerk's office will be closed on Monday as it prepares to relocate to the police building following a burst heating pipe on Mar. 8 that caused major water damage to three floors at City Hall.
The clerk's staff will move into the former traffic bureau space, which is located directly west of the main desk at the police building at 221 E. Third. The relocation is expected to last for six weeks or more as restoration crews work to repair the water damage, which was caused when a connection to a heating unit in the city attorney's office suite on the second floor failed.

Water seeped through the floor into the clerk's office located beneath it. Royal Oak's City Hall, which was built in 1952, is heated by a boiler system.
Staff asks for the public's patience as it works toward delivering all of clerk's services again, which includes managing elections, providing birth and death certificates, issuing solicitation permits, providing dog licenses, bike licenses and keeping official city records.
The staff of the Royal Oak City Attorney's office is also temporarily displaced, moving to various locations within City Hall and the 44th District Court. A print shop located in the basement of City Hall has been closed since the flooding incident. It is expected to resume its operations as early as next week.
