Local church hit by scrappers 6 times in 6 months

DETROIT – A local church has been broken into six times by scrappers in the past six months.

Pastor Michael Beasley, of Total Life Change Ministries International, has been making repairs as scrappers come through and destroy his hard work.

The 77,000 square-foot building on Tireman Avenue used to be the Mae Jemison Academy.

Scrappers have taken electrical panels and removed wires to sell the copper. Sound equipment has also been stolen.

“We have power in parts of the building but we don’t have it in the sanctuary, we don’t have it in a lot of the classrooms,” Beasley said. “The main areas we use it seems like the area that got hit.”

Church members found that someone had taken the electricity meter off the back of the building Sunday.

“They want to go and get their few dollars that’s going to cost us thousands,” Beasley said.

Beasley has tried to fix the problem by securing the building using boards, chains and extra locks to keep the unwanted out.

Beasley started a GoFundMe account to raise funds.
