Arsonist torches donation bins at St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Lincoln Park

More than 1,500 pounds of donations destroyed, organization says

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – An arsonist has destroyed more than 1,500 pounds of clothing and household donations at a St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Lincoln Park by setting three donation bins on fire.

The damage was discovered Monday at the store on Fort Street. Police told organization officials that the damage was caused by arson, but they have not released any more information on who might have caused it.

“The St Vincent de Paul family is feeling blessed that nobody was hurt and that the store did not catch on fire,” said organization spokeswoman Michelle St. Pierre. "However, we estimate several thousand dollars of donated goods along with the bins were destroyed, and we’re asking the public to help us in restoring the lost items.”

The organization said it is still taking donations at any of its 11 other thrift store and donation center locations. For a list of the locations, click here.

Monetary donations can be made online at svdpdet.org.
