DETROIT – Traffic was snarled on the Lodge Freeway for hours Tuesday night after a road-rage situation spiraled out of control.
Michigan State Police are investigating after a shot was fired on the southbound side of the Lodge Freeway near 7 Mile Road in Detroit.
State police told Local 4 News a man driving a white Chrysler crashed into a 66-year-old woman driving a tan car in the southbound lanes.
The man got out of his car, walked over to the woman and either hit her with his fist or with the butt of a gun. The woman was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not given by police.
The man then went back to his car and saw a dark-colored car, which is captured on cellphone video, pull off on the shoulder.

Police said there was a good Samaritan in that car and that the gunman then turned and took a shot at the person. Nobody was injured by the gunshot.
Police are talking to that good Samaritan.
Witnesses said the gunman started pulling weapons out of his car. At that point, state police arrived and took him into custody.

Troopers recovered a trunkful of guns. It's unclear whether they're legal or not.

Traffic on the southbound side of the Lodge Freeway was snarled and being routed off the freeway. The service drive was backed up. The southbound lanes reopened late Tuesday.
Northbound Lodge Freeway remained open Tuesday evening.
