Month-long closure of intersection at Warren and Woodward avenues to begin

DETROIT – Traffic at the intersection of Warren and Woodward avenues will come to a halt Friday and will remain closed for a month.

Construction of the M1 Rail continues and will now affect businesses near the intersection in Midtown.

The project has caused constant street closures making it hard for anyone to get around in the area.

Simon Nikprelaj opened the Forest Avenue Café in April 2015. There’s been nothing but orange and white cones around him ever since.

“I don’t know what the good days are like,” Nikprelaj said. “I’m still waiting on them to come.”

The M1 Rail line is expected to revive the already booming Midtown.

Westbound Warren Avenue will be closed at Woodward Avenue. Construction crews will be working extended hours until the construction at this intersection is complete. There will be pedestrian and vehicular detours will have directional signage.

Access to businesses in the area will not be interrupted. On-street parking will be maintained.

Vehicles traveling on eastbound Warren Avenue will be detoured to take the following routes:

  • Vehicles starting on W. Warren Avenue from M-10 will travel south on Cass Avenue, east on Forest Avenue, and north on John R. Street to get to E. Warren Avenue.
  • Vehicles starting on E. Warren Avenue from I-75 will travel south on John R Street, west on Mack Avenue/MLK Boulevard, and north on Cass Avenue to get back to W. Warren Avenue.

Pedestrian traffic will be limited in some area along Woodward Avenue.

Cars parked in work-zones along Woodward Avenue will be towed.
