Detroit victim speaks out after video shows man pointing a gun at him, shouting gay slurs

"There's no reason to be homophobic. It's 2016," the victim says

DETROIT – The victim in a viral video posted to Twitter that is being investigated as a hate crime is speaking out.

The video shows a man callously pointing a gun at a man he believes is gay outside of a Detroit liquor store. The man with the gun shouted insults and homophobic slurs.

“All of the sudden he pulls the gun out,” the victim said.

The 23-year-old victim says he was targeted because he’s gay.

“There’s no reason to be homophobic. It’s 2016,” the victim said.

It was posted Tuesday evening from the twitter account @BINSWANSON.

The young man says he’s cooperating with police and hopes the man who recorded the video will be arrested.

“I’m thankful for all the people that’s supporting me and standing by me,” the victim said. “It could have been a tragic situation.”
