First female ever joins Livonia Stevenson High varsity football team

The crowd attending a Livonia Stevenson high school varsity football game was extra excited to see their newest player, Sarah Monte.

The reason? Sarah is the first female to play on the team.

“She's doing a great job fitting in with the guys,” said Randy Micallef, head coach of the Livonia Stevenson high school varsity football team.

Sarah earned her way into the team with her natural kicking abilities, which friends said is impressive.

"She's been working so hard this whole summer," one person in attendance said.

“She earned it. She earned it” said Micallef.

When it came time to kick, she proved why she's on the team.

While most young ladies on the field are flipping and cheering, Monte set out to achieve something many thought was impossible.

"I mean, I think I earned it," Monte said. "I work hard at practice every day. I run with them, do everything they do."

Sarah is the first girl to play on the varsity football team in the school’s history.
