What happened

Officers received reports of shots being fired inside Twelve Oaks Mall at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday. Police later determined that no shots were fired and believe people had panicked after hearing a display case shatter at the Tapper’s jewelry store.

Police said three men were seen walking into the jewelry store before the display case was smashed with a small hammer. Two watches were stolen and the robbers fled on foot.

The mall was on lockdown briefly before it was evacuated and shoppers were moved to the parking lot.

No injuries were reported and the mall was reopened Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Novi Police Department at 248-378-7100.
