Chief James Craig on death of Officer Jarrett: 'The entire department is grieving'

DETROIT – Chief James Craig spoke just hours after eight-year veteran Myron Jarrett was killed in a hit-and run on the city's east side.

"This is a tragedy," Craig said. "The entire department is grieving over this loss. He’s an eight-year veteran. He was signed to the 12th precinct for the last three years.”

Officer Jarrett was responding to other officers who needed assistance during a traffic stop when he was struck by a vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle was later identified as Steven Guzima of Lincoln Park, police said. Guzima was arrested hours after the crash.
