Wonder Woman 'Fired'

Critics: She Does Not Empower Women Or Girls

Two months after she was made an honorary ambassador by the United Nations, Wonder Woman has been fired from the position.

Wonder Woman was given the role of Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls campaign, but the idea sparked a backlash. Critics said a swimsuit-clad white woman with big breasts wasn't diverse or empowering enough.

During the October 21 unveiling ceremony at the UN, many staffers silently turned their back to the stage, some with their fists in the air.

An online petition -  with more than 44,000 signatures - called on the UN to reconsider the Wonder Woman idea.

The petition acknowledged the goal was to show a strong and independent  woman, but goes on to say Wonder Woman had "impossible proportions," and was scantily clad in a shimmery, thigh-baring body suit.
The decision to remove Wonder Woman from the program was made public this week.
